NASA Day of Remembrance was created by BrianOHalloran
Lest we not forget, tomorrow is the 39th anniversary of the Apollo 1 fire, Saturday the 20th anniversary of the loss of Challenger and next Thursday is the 3rd anniversary of the loss of Columbia. Today is NASA's Day of Remembrance for the 3 lost crews, and they've put a rather nice Flash feature on the NASA front page in tribute:

www.nasa.gov/externalflash/dor_front/index.html

There are videos remembering the STS 51-L and 107 crews included - the tribute by Bob Crippen of the STS-107 crew, and of Columbia herself (he piloted her on her maiden flight) is excellent and should not be missed.

I'd never noticed before just how clustered the dates for all these terrible dissasters are. Please god the leasons have been learned so that there are no more names to add to this list in the future.

Thanks for the link Brian.
Well worth a visit and a touching tribute to all concerned.
How the years fly by!

I really must think of something interesting to use as a tag line!

For anyone visiting Florida, a must item to see is Cape Canaveral. I spent nearly three years in Florida on a consulting assignment and I visited Cape Canaveral MANY times.

One of the sights is a black marble plate (it is huge) which is an astronaut memorial and which has the names of the lost astronauts. It is oriented in such a way so that the sun always points at it.

Let me dig out one of my many photos from Cape Canaveral and which also includes this memorial.

Anthony.

PPS. I apologize for the quality of the photos. They were taken before the digital age using a manual focus Canon A-1 camera with various Canon FD lenses.
