That's strange - I'm pretty sure my sources for that story were books co-authored by Aldrin and/or television interviews featuring him. However, my understanding of the story was that it wasn't a metal pen - it was the plastic ink tube inside it.Actually Aldrin refuted this story at the NCH interview.
I wonder if it p*sses off Buzz that Neil always seems to come first?Deirdre, if you though Buzz was good, you should have seen Neil the previous year!

I think the fact that Buzz didn't take any direct shot of Neil while on the surface is testament enough! The only recorded photo of Neil on the surface (inadvertently taken by Buzz) is Neil's reflecion in Buzz's visor:
