Went to hear the esteemed paleontologist Andy Knoll give a lecture in Trinity last night - "A Tale to 2 Planets - Earth, Mars and Life". For those who don't know he's part of the scientific team overseeing the Mars Rovers.
Fascinating lecture. Some of the images he showed were truly astounding including one only taken last Friday - we were the first non-scientific audience to see it. He demonstrated many different proofs that water once existed on Mars. However the 'activity' of the water probably precluded life there.
He really is an excellent speaker. Most of the lecture was non-technical and he didn't go into too much techno-babble jargon due to the audience, thankfully
There's a small report about the lecture in today's Irish Times.
