but what a way to go.

You could get a goto scope 13 years ago and motorised ones for the past 30.
Adaptive optics are now available like the A0-7, they cost alot and will probabily become cheaper.
Maybe with the help of high speed internet in 20 years time, people across the country can use interferometic techniques to create high resolution imaging, but the moment its well beyond our current ability.
Its the unexpected strides which make me smile, such as registax, it has revolutionised planetary imaging to the point where it is thee standard !.
It is routine for many experienced imagers to get images as good if not better then those obtained in the aerlier nasa jupiter missions, now thats amazing especially if you can remember (like I do) that getting star trails was about all you could get.

I've thought about this before....
i think it (or the process to meking 'it' ) happen
pretty soon
(as in the next 10 years)
One could (hopefully) be excused with quoting MOORE'S law here...
If it gets cheaper by half then the masses will incorporate it into
everyday life....
Who knows what will Happen?
We do indeed live in exciting times....

John
Better that old people should die of talk than to have young people die in war.

I have a built-in interferometry system - works perfectly with my 10x50 binoculars
It's amazing what the big observatories can do these days but it's still light years behind the capabilities of the human brain and visual system.

I'm afraid you only have a stereo system. Your brain processes the image from each eye separately to form a 3D perception. Each eye is looking at the world from a slightly different angle, which not even an interferometer could combine usefully. Interferometry is the method of combining (by constructive interference) the same wave front as recorded by two separate detectors operating physically in parallel.
