VSE won't survive the US presidential election, especially if Obama is elected. Expect very, very bad times for NASA if that happens - a gutting of NASA's federal funding not seen since Carter.
If Clinton or McCain get in, expect Mike Griffin to go along with the Ares I and V. Orion would get built, but will get moved to an EELV and be used for Earth orbit ops only.
