Hi,
NASA's Dawn spaceprobe is now closing in on asteroid 4 Vesta. At just over 500km in diameter, Vesta is the second largest asteroid.
For images see
dawn.jpl.nasa.gov/
They seem to show a battered cratered surface, maybe from being exposed to a battering from being billions of years in the asteriod belt.
The last released images were taken on 24th June 2011, when the probe was over 150,000 away from Vesta. Since then Dawn has moved to within 60,000 km of the asteroid. Can't wait to see some new images.
Nice to visit a new world, it brings back the Voyager days!
