Applications - Saving Bitmaps in Win XP

Two problems when I upgraded to a Win XP machine.
1. In Starry Night Pro (ver. 3) the save to bitmap dialog box does not appear.
2. In Guide 8 the "save to bitmap" works, but losses the colour (just appears black & white).
I wonder are the problems related, any body have similiar problems
or ideas?
Both worked fine under a Win ME machine.

The only reason that something would not appear is if the installation is corrupt or the software is not compatible with Windows XP. Otherwise, try using "Ctrl-Prt Scr" on your keyboard to capture the screen and then paste the image into a photo editing software like paint shop pro.
I've never used Guide8 but try downloading installing Cartes du Ceil instead. It's free and you can export images and create comet paths etc.
Looking at the Starry Night website
www.starrynight.com/support/softwareupda...+3&Submit=Search
there are a number of updates available for SNP3 so download and install them first.

Perhaps I should have been clearer.
1. I was in fact using File --> Export in Starry Night Pro (version 3.12,
the latest update for that version).
2. There is a good forum for Guide8, the only reason I mentioned it here
is that is case the problems were related.
Thanks for the reply,
John

Have a look at the box John & you'll see SNP3 is only compatible to Windows 2000 so there are bound to be some problems. You need to upgrade to SNP4 or 5 to get XP compatibility.

I will see if trying to make it compatible with 2000 works.
Upgrades from Starry Night Pro version 3 to 5 are expensive ($120), so
I will not go down that path. Another reason for this is that when I upgraded from ver.2 (I think they called it Delux then) to ver.3 I was disappointed to discover they did away with the Constellation Lines Hotkey.
This little hotkey was a delight, you could get a great realistic view
of the southern skies with everything turn off except the stars, and if
you get a little lost you could turn on the Constellation Lines momentarily. I e-mailed the owners and they said they would fix this in the next version upgrade (did they?).
At least with Guide8 Bill Grey will do little (and not so little) fixes for free.
thanks for the reply

Hi John,
Yes - you can toggle K [Shift/k] on and off for the constellations in v.5
