ToUcam problem?? was created by galwayskywatchers.GAC
Hi Ronan from the Galway Astronomy club.
I recently stated having problems with my To Ucam pro which has worked flawlessly all Autumn imaging with great shots of Mars, The Moon and Saturn I don’t know if it’s the camera, software or the laptop itself. Either way I am not too well up on computers.
I use the Vega image capture software, problem is when I press “Connect” with the camera connected to the laptop all I get is a blank screen, the unusual part is that the red light on the camera is on, so the camera is working, just no picture.
As you all know when you buy this camera you get “Phillips V Lounge” on the cd. When I open this and go into “V Record” the same thing happens and it tells me in an info. Box that“This graph cannot preview”. What does mean and anyone have the same problem?
Here is the catch when I go into ‘V Mail” it works!!
Bit confusing.

Hi Ronan,
Try un-installing the "broken" software and then re-installing it.

Hi Ronan,
I am a member of this chat line for about the past 5 minutes so as you can see I am only a novice. You seem to know something about astro photography. Is it possible to use an ordinary digital camers (Fujifilm S304)on a tripod or stand to get photos of the moon through a telescope (4.5 reflector). I dont have any actual software - all I mean is just put the camera on a tripod , looking in your telescope and then just take the shot . I have tried this many times , but every photo I get is very blurred . I focus the shots as well as I can but it does not seem to make much difference.
Thanks very much.
Garry

Garry,
I have a digital camera and have often images of the moon through my scope. The camera I have is nothing special. I simply focus the eyepiece in the telescope and then place the front lens of the camera up near the eyepiece. Then, very carefully, I take a snap. Repeat this several times. What makes it a little easier is if there is a countdown timer on your camera. This will eliminate any vibrations caused by presing the button. Alot of the images initially mightn't be great but if you take enough you'll get a few reasonably good ones. Here's a link to my webpage which has a small sample of my images. (I must get 'round to updating that website someday! )

Well once it works with one aplication you can be fairly sure that the hardware is ok.
The problem then is likley to be with software, and Daves suggestion of remove & install untill it works again is probably the best bet!
