You are gonna have to get rid of Vista Frank, as the Toucam will not work with it as there are no drivers for it. Besides imagine the increase in dropped frames with all the CPU running the OS.

There is a very good chance a friend an I can make a workable
driver for the Philips webcam on vista....
do ye think this might be worth while?
I'm for the moment gonna just split the HD and make it bootable to
either or.
anyways,
I think its time to go down Mac Linux st.
The travel reviews look great!

As someone who's exclusively traveled down Mac & Linux st. for a few years now (Genuine (dis)Advantage was the final straw for me) I can highly recommend it. If your budget allows the Mac is a great platform, if not, Linux is free, can't say fairer than that!

Bart.
at this stage,
My budget
Requires
that I get a scope / system
that is reliable and does what I want it to.
I have spent far to many years of my life (in total)
*&&^&*% around with sub systems and electronics that
do not do what I want them to do.
Let me just say that this is probably the only time in my life
that I will be able to, quite flippantly just splurge a
a bit of hard earned cash on a hobby.
So I guess I need to just think about what I want to do
and then get the right equipment and go do it.
I mean...
If you loved taking shots of sharks,
would you buy a substandard shark cage!?
Me thinks not.
I know now that
for me
Astronomy is for life...
Not just for Christmas!

Heck, of course! Even if someone else has beat you to a 'home made' Vista driver for it, I'm sure it is not 100% working. If you find one, and you appear to be code-savy in working on it, then make your own improved version. I am sure thousands of users worldwide are just screaming for a working Vista driver for their ToUcam to do some imaging!

I bought 5 new PCS and 4 laptops last week from Dell. I warned them not to put Vista on them and to install XP Pro instead. When I checked my order confirmations, some of the laptops were still being configured for Vista. A quick phone call got that sorted, but it just goes to show that Vista pushers are out there. - Say NO to Vista!
However, it won't be long before you can't buy a machine from Dell or other manufacturer without Vista as Microsoft dictate the availability of product to these manufacturers.
