Crashed and Burned... was created by dmcdona
Folks, I may have been conspicuous by my absence. A week last monday my primary hard disk crashed and burned - needless to say I *do* practice backups but what with work and the Bank Holiday in between, its taken me until today to get things back on track. Well almost.
My last full backup was the end of March - so I've lost a month of emails. So if anyone was looking for me or had replied to emails I sent in April, apologies. Just resend if you feel necessary.
Now, back to rebuilding...
Dave

Dave,
This is a very frustrating experience. I went through something similar about two years ago where my laptop's hard disk crashed (no burning) and, regrettably, my backups were also defective for certain images which I was never able to recover.
From now on, I have a USB interfaced external hard drive where I make two copies on a regular basis plus CD backups.
As much as we love, embrace and depend on technology, it can surface its ugly face unexpectedly and destructively.

That's tough going Dave, I hate it when that happens.
My laptop packed in last week, I'll get around to it sometime in the next month, luckily for me I've other computers I can use.

I recently bought two external hard-disks and was keepign all my data on them - twice. So I've not lost a thing other than my mailbox (and a few other settings) which amounts to only a month's worth of emails.
Its still a major pain to re-install everything from scratch but as it happens, I reckon my registry was creaking at the seams and need a rebuild anyhow
That said, I'm now eying up a new system - hopefully an Apple one but we'll see how the finances pan out...

Dave - a real pain indeed. As it happens, I have three networked PC's. As a general question, is there any free or cheap backup software out there that can deal with copying specified files across a network? It would have been handy if my backup software would have had the facility to copy my PST file on a daily basis to a safe location...
