The Astronomer's Telegram on Twitter was created by mjc
I stumbled on this a while ago and have been periodically having a look. Most of the time reports mean absolutely nothing to me but occassionally I see something that I appreciate.
The Astronomer's Telegram is a web based information exchange system for transient Astronomical observations (at all wavelengths) among professionals. Started in 1997 - don't know if there's universal participation but seems active enough. However, quite terse and I reckon it won't be most people's cup of tea.

While not intended for amateurs, some might appreciate being in this loop.
