Hi -

I'm putting the finishing touches to the Apple iPad version of my app "Pocket Universe", and I'm looking for some sources of good astro images.

There are loads of Public Domain images online, but I'd love to take the opportunity to show off Irish Astronomy talent.

Would anyone be interested in providing some images? I would give full credit in the application!

If you are interested, I currently need some good images of the Moon which I could use as a labelled map. I'm also keen to get some good Messier object shots, as well as some general starfields.

Thanks!

John,

Nice of you to consider us for a source of images.
I certainly don't mind sharing some of my images.
Some however may need to be sized down - is there an optimum size of image that would fit neatly for the ipad?

Michael.

The iPad screen resolution is 1024 by 768, but of course I'll be having to adapt images to fit into the various dialog windows. For example, the Moon map can't be larger than 540 by 540 in the current design. It sounds small, but the device has a very sharp screen with deep blacks so images really do look amazing.

Aside from the Moon, I would love to get some nice Messier images (M31? Orion Nebula? Ring Nebula?) to use as a splash screen, and then link to some images from within the program i.e. when the user selects M31, they can device to see the image full-screen...

By the way, I once found a picture of the Moon that was a composite designed to have maximum contrast all over the surface. I can't remember where it was now.. anyone know what I'm talking about?
