Web Hosting

Folks - albeit that I'm fairly computer literate, I'm really not sure how to go about registering a domain and hosting a web site. Do you know of anyone out there who offers a good reliable service? Preferably free but am prepared to pay for quality.

I'd like my own domain and the ability to send in 'live' images that would update pretty much as soon as they got onto the web server.

No problems with the service or setup which is done via hosting365.ie

As for domain names, I generally use www.namecheap.com/ They are cheap and flexible (southdublinastronomy.org is registered with them and hosted with hosting 365). Though I have one domain that I got Bart to transfer for me also to h365, and I manage the email and web pages from there.

Above all else stay away from networksolutions.com, When I started registering domains they were pretty much the only choice, but are now to be avoided.

For small website I can generally get you a better deal than Hosting 365 despite the fact that I use their servers (I bulk buy and then sell on), but TBH for large sites H365 will give you a better deal, mind you I give better service!

As for domains, the actual prices don't vary THAT much so I tend to prefer to have them somewhere I really trust rather than saving only a few Euro a year and having them with a bunch of cowboys!

I've been using topcities.com. the domain they give is a mix of your own and theirs. e.g finnjim2001.topcities.com

I use www.stargate.com for any sites I work on. you can do mirroring of sites with multiple domains pointing to one address too. Very cheap for space purchase and registration.
