Dark sky sites kildare/Carlow/Laois was created by Lennyk
Hi there,
I was wondering does anyone know of any decent dark sky observing sites near kildare Carlow Laois. I currently reside in Athy and can't seem to find anywhere decent.
I don't mind driving for out a bit any suggestions greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Lenny.

Welcome to the IFAS Boards, im living in Portarlington myself and I have a few dark(ish) sites I visit for a bit of astrophotography.
Our club in the midlands has its own site out near Tullamore also.
Emo house grounds are open at night and have a good dark sky, some nice places in and around the lakes.
There are some bog lakes outside Portarlington that offer some dark skies, but its a bit of a walk into them.
Along the canal outside Monasterevin has some dark skies.
theer is a lot of bog out towards Athy that would be perfect, I have looked som eof it up on google maps before, but never found the time to go out and explore.
We have some members of the midlands club in Athy. get in touch if there is anything we can do to help you out.

Hey Dave, thanks for the information.
I will have to check out the bog and see if it's useable.
I m just back from living in the US where I was spoiled for choice lol, so it would be nice to find something not to far.
Again thanks for all the info!
