This is a shot that I managed over a year ago - December 2013. I never put it up anywhere as I always intended to redo the subject......maybe I'll get a chance when the moon cooperates in the not too distant future.
Obviously I framed the picture wrong and ended up with strong interference from Rigel - just out of the picture. My processing at the time was not too good but regardless I put it up now just for interest.

IC 2118 (also known as Witch Head Nebula due to its shape), is an extremely faint reflection nebula believed to be an ancient supernova remnant or gas cloud illuminated by nearby supergiant star Rigel in Orion. It lies in the Eridanus constellation, about 900 light-years from Earth. The nature of the dust particles, reflecting blue light better than red, is a factor in giving the Witch Head its blue colour.

That's really cool !
I am always surprised at some of the gems that I have ignored when I took them as I was either trying to capture something else at the time or I wasn't happy with the shot due to a passing cloud or glare like you have here.

Hi Simon,
I have just gone back into the files and I see L= 6x600s and RGB each 3 x 300s. I also see 3 x 300s Ha which I think I put into the mix. (Sorry my note taking on what exactly I did back then -30/12/2013 - leaves a lot to be desired). I really should have another go at processing that lot but am hoping to get a complete new set of subs soon.....with a wider field of view.
The above are all Bin 1x1 (all I ever do) - taken with ATIK 460ex and Astronomik filters.

Witch Head Nebula

Here is a mono image that I did tonight (Friday 10th). When I get a chance I will add colour.
