M13 imaged by a Takahashi RC300 was created by arnierosner
The scope is mounted on a Paramount ME. The camera is an ST8XE. The filters were the standard LRGB.

L = 6 x 180 seconds binned 1x1
RGB were 3 x 300 seconds binned 2x2

Hey Arnie - that's a super shot. Did you post that on the SBIG board?

I like the framing and the colours are just right. Super sharp too. And no hint of over-processing at all!

Gosh, its nearly as good as my pic of M13

I must have a chat with you about my next OTA. I was looking at the Tak Mewlon as an option...

All the best

Hi Dave,

The RC is a great scope and produces great images. You will notice that the exposures were not too long either.

Hey I like your M13. That is a unique rendition. I think the imagination is very important.

Best regards,

Arnie

Cheers Arnie. I think it wasn't so much imagination as just getting an image that looked remotely like a cluster... And hang the colours... :D

That said, this pic was taken with a 70mm refractor that cost $90.00. So I guess I can't complain.

Is the Mewlon an RC design? If so, what is the Epsilon? Its a while since I checked out the Tak OTA's. Photometry will be my priority so I've heard refractors are not as good as reflectors. But then I'm only just starting the research.

Last December I drove from LA to New Mexico so I know the distance! But what super dark skies. And hoorah for robotics eh? I must swing by your site again and check out what you've been spending the GDP of the USA on :D

Cheers

Hi Dave,

The Mewlon is a Dall-Kirkham Cassegrain design. FL is 3572 @ F/11.8. Coupled with the FLI Dream Machine (1024 x 1024 pixels each pixel is 24 microns. It suits the Mewlon well since the backlite siTE chip is extremely sensitive and offsets the slow f/ratio very nicely. Typical exposures are in the 20 to 60 second range for the L frames. If there are no bright stars in the field then longer exposures are possible.

Here is the current array of instruments I have available:
