Analemma with the Temple of Aphaia was created by ayiomamitis
Dear Friends,

This wild multi-year ride is slowly coming to an end. I am happy to present analemma #10 which required four annual efforts to complete: www.perseus.gr/Astro-Solar-Analemma-120000.htm .... one analemma currently in progress (fifth annual effort) and which is scheduled to complete in early Nov/2005 (hopefully successfully).

Clear skies.

Anthony.

Very nice Anthony!

Do you trigger the shots automatically or manually?

Bill, Stephen and John,

Thank you for the kind words. I am delighted to learn of your approval. Although very frustrating when these things are in progress, everything seems to be forgotten once they turn out successfully. I guess this is very typical of astrophotography.

John: There is no way I would automate the release of the shutter. Everything is done totally manually. I synchronize my cellular phone to the Atomic Clock so as to release the shutter with very precise accuracy. I have more information as to the "how's" at www.perseus.gr/Astro-Tips-Analemma.htm which you may find of interest. I also hope you like the sample photo.

Interesting read.

How do you keep the camera aligned, I'm assuming that you don't leave anything at the site where you take your shots.

Thinking about it, I suppose you could mark three points on the ground and have a camera setup on a small tripod then keep the camera and tripod locked in position so that you only have to reposition the legs at those points.

Might give it a go in Ireland! I would have to be a bit loose on catching the apex and crossover points given the weather here. This would be great to do at Newgrange, but I think I would try it out somewhere more local to me first.
