Image Processing software results in a better Black Eye was created by dmcdona
Folks - rather than continue using up this board's bandwidth with my images, I'm now posting them directly to my website (see sinature below).
I downloaded MaximDL (30 day trail) the other day and had yet anothr go at processing the Black Eye galaxy. It certainly did wonders to the image and improved it so that fine detail is visible:
www.astroshack.net/gallery/M64.php
But the functionality of this software in controlling a mount/CCD/Focuse/guider etc is fantastic. At least for the AP mount, I can slew wherever I want and when I get there, I can nudge the scope by as little as one arcsecond
Imaging itself is well catered for, including calibration frames (darks, flats, bias, flat darks etc). For such a functional package, you can expect a fairly steep learning curve, but if you've imaged before it shouldn't phase you out.
And it has a DSI driver! Full package is $400 though
By the way, for bandwidth challenged folks, I am keeping my images to as small as size as possible.
Cheers

Mira is $600
www.mirametrics.com/
Anyone use AIP4Win? It comes with "Handbook of Astronomical Image Processing"; a new edition of which is to be published over the summer. $99
