2nd North America Attempt last night was created by Keith g
Hello All, You might remember from a couple of weeks ago that I had a go at imaging the North America nebula (NGC7000) under not so good conditions, with there being a bright moon and all. Last night I had some excellent transparency under a clear sky, so I had a go again with the moon out of the way, here's my attempt with this nebula in Cygnus. It was virtually at the zenith, so I set up the C8 to piggyback my 300D wiith a 85mm f1.8 USM Lens at f4.5, ISO 800 again, but a longer exposure of 10 minutes. This is a crop of about two thirds the original frame.

Just slight alteration in levels and colour balance to get the best out of this shot. I think it's a bit better :)

Hope you like it!

Keith - that's a big improvement. The NA nebula is now clearly visible.

Wide field images of the nebulae always seem to give imagers the biggest processing challenges. I wouldn't have any advice to give you on how do this this rather tricky task but you've done a great job.

Your 300D/lens/mount combinations seems to be working a treat!

Cheers

Very nice Keith!!

Thats a bif improvement on the 1st go.

I hope you'll forgive me for taking the liberty of fiddling with the contrast a bit. I think it highlights the nebula a bit more and darkens the sky background.

I'll just post a link as the image is 148KB.

Now of course you need to consider taking multiple images and stacking them, the resultant increase in the signal/noise ratio will make your images even better (if thats possible!).

BTW do you work in RAW mode?

Nice work.[/url]

Thanks for the interest lads, It's a tricky beast alright, with the unmodified camera, but it's a bit better than last time.

Had a look at the darkened image, it does bring out the nebula in more contrast against a darker sky, next up is more images/stacking to improve on this :P

BTW, every shot I take is in RAW mode

Later,
Keith..
