thats a great image BTW.
Its all about processing, you could spend the rest of the week tweaking the image and getting more detail out of it.

if you took another image much later or earlier e.g. near dawn, or just as it got dark and Mars high enough, and compare images, would you then be able to determine if its a surface feature against the surface backdrop? Both of your stunning images were taken at the same time or thereabouts, so if you had a variation of a couple of hours (you know, Mars having a 24:17 hours rotation and all that).
