thanks for the kind words lads,

Jed, You're dead right on what you said about letting the canon de-bayer the image, and I dont have a bias frame, i was doing it the quick and easy way.
To be honest, this image is another one of my "tests" to see if the system works, I'm pretty happy with the setup so now its time to get serious and do things properly :)

Dave G, I was going to mod the toucam, but I might have another idea up my slieve for a camera.

Top Drawer images Dave, especially the Moon shot, I really like that one! I can't wait to see your attempt at a longer exposure on the Crab. 8)

Very nice shot of the moon. Was the M1 shot at F10?

Jed, that was at F10, the image was then cropped to this size, the full size would have been too big for the site. Had I uploaded the full image I would have had Bart coming after me
And as for the moon image, the orig is much bigger and has more detail, but again its too big for here.

I'd be dead interested to hear about any alternative you might be considering. The only problem using a modded webcam is that you need a parallel port. My new laptop doesnt have one (all USB). I've tried all kinds of usb-parallel adaptors and none works really satisfactorily. SO I'm left with using my old P266 laptop which works fine with the setup, but doesnt have a battery do I cant take it out to dark skies. I was thinking of buying either a couple of batteries (not cheap) for it (or a 12v - 16v cigar plug convertor). So I'd love to hear abvout any other camera idea you might have, particularly if they dont involve parallel ports.

Regards and Clear Skies,

Dave,

Very good work with both photos! I especially like the snake-eyes effect with Mare Crisium.
