Is this a Parry Arc? was created by eclipsedan
Hi all,

I posted this shot of an upper tangent arc quite a few months ago. However, someone on an online forum suggested that there is also a Parry arc to be seen in it.

Can someone with more knowledge than me verify this?

Regards,

Daniel

Daniel looks like an Upper tangent arc to me, i take it the arc was approx 22 degrees above the sun?

You have seen it at an interesting stage, it looks horned..at times like that a circumscribed halo could appear.

Nice shot.

Yes it was part of the 22 degree halo. And yes, it is unusual to see it horned. However, above the horn, there is another fainter horn. It's not too easy to see and quite poorly defined.

Is this a parry arc?

Having had another good look at the page on Parry Arcs ( www.sundog.clara.co.uk/halo/parry1.htm ) I think you DID catch one, jsut a very faint one!

I've drawn it in on a copy of your image to make it clearer:

Well done!

Thanks Bart,

That's precisely the area I was looking at. It does seem to be a (very) faint parry arc. Maybe if I could find the original file, I might be able to process it a bit and make it stand out more.

Cheers,

Daniel
