Michael - are you issued with the FITS images? Also, did you take an colour data or just luminance?

M51 looks like (on my monitor) it can be pushed a bit further...

We wish for kit like that... And more importantly, the skies...

All images are in FITS format, which is great as I can go back to them at any stage and get the full level of detail/data from them in thge future once my processing skills improve.

The image of M51 above is composed of 3 luminance images, each of 2 min exposure.

As for pushing the image a bit more, I think you're right.
How does this look?

Much better Mike, and the foregroud stars still (pretty much) retain their shape too.

That's better! I know over-pushing it tends to bloat the brighter stars. The only other option to get the fine details without the bloat is to crop the image, take longer exposures/stacking more images or do some masking in photoshop. There are probably software filters etc that would help too.

But I think that's a fab image just as it is. Lovely dark background. Ahhh...

Cheers

Dave

Great image Michael.
I also wish I had equipment that could do that consistantly.
you get what you pay for.
Its tinkering on the brink of too-pushed, all the same the galaxy looks fabulous, real detail in the arms
