Dave G - I think that at my current level of expertise, this is about as good as it gets for this kind of subject (deep-sky and dim - especially fine detail).
Its partly equipment and partly technique. The kit is OK - it'd be nice to shoot this through a 20" RC with a tope end ccd imager, from the confines of a dome, with an elctronic focuser and equipment rotator etc etc
As far as technique goes, without guiding, I'm limited to about 30 minutes - BUT, that's gonna take a lot more tweaking (polar alignment, PEC, T-Point modelling and AP Pulse-Guiding). On top of that, I need to get better darks and shoot bias/flat frames. there's also a bit of headroom in processing techniques methinks...
As it stands, 3 minutes is my current unguided limit. I'd love to go for 10 minute + subs, but that's a way away... And I know it would make a huge difference in the dimmer targets.
So for now, Stephan's Quintet is about as good as it gets
And no, I'm never happy - that's why I'm poor
Cheers and really appreciate the feedback.
