Yes, i did set the quality and image count to 0 and 1.
Should i be seeing points of light or blobs..??
Yes the laptop is Usb 1.1
That actually ended my night while trying to capture M45, it just kept putting up the 5 images lost etc etc...

The USB 1.1 is a problem - the DSI will still work but optmally. And with the recent sofware changes, it seems to be even more picky. I might actually revert back to the previous software version...
Of course, you should see points of light. But the fact you see blobs is probably not the DSI - it could be poor focus, poor seeing, position of M42 (if its near the hoizon or above a light polluted area) etc.
Try the DSI during the day on a distant object (mast, tree on a hill) and see what happens.
Do you use the 'dave all uncombined images' option? If not, do so. It'll save each individual image and you won't lose everything...

Yes, i do save all uncombined images.
The other thing was that after, when i went into image processing, the only thing i could really do was colour tweaking (suturation etc), and also i had to change the images from jpeg to bitmap.
Some of the pull down tabs were unavailable to me in image processing as well.

You guys may be interested to know you can get pc-card (pcmcia) usb 2 adapters quite cheap these days.
I know as there is quite a discussion about these on the SAC yahoo group as it does not like usb 1.1 ports either!
Later,
Jed.

Even better - there are some new USB ports available in the US that have an ethernet connection. USB over ethernet. You can factor out the laptop altogether!
Last time I saw, they were only USB 1.1 but working on USB 2. Also, they weren't cheap - $600 I think. Cheaper than a laptop though...
Cheers
