Congrats to Anthony Ayiomamitis

Congratulations to Anthony for his picture appearing in the May 2004 issue of Sky & Telescope. It's an excellent picture of an analemma with some amazing ancient greek ruins in the foreground. It is truly an inspiring shot and deservedly gets a place in the gallery section of the magazine. The story of how Anthony made this analemma can be found on his website - perseus.gr I think, but I'm sure Anto will reply and give fuller details.

BTW - commiserations to S&T subscribers in the Dublin area. It's a really good new issue and the revamp improves an already excellent magazine. Hope the postal strike doesn't keep it from you for too long!

you mean the issue that arrived last week before the strike started . nice photograph alot of hard work work went into, well done. but to try something like that here would require to be able actually to see it in the first place .

Dear Friends,

A sincere thank you for the kind words. This particular analemma required three annual efforts to complete - the first was doomed well into the project thanks to the weather, the second was dead from day one due to film movement back and forth within the camera chamber and I only found out twelve months later and, finally, all the pieces fell into place perfectly during the third annual marathon.

Only a handful of these have ever been completed and I would love to hear that someone from this group pursues and successfully completes such a challenging and difficult project.

As noted in the Dec/2003 issue of Sky&Telescope, more men have landed on the moon - twelve in total as we all know - than have successfully completed the analemma.

PS. I made the mistake ( ) of pursuing eleven analemmas which represent the complete gamut from sunrise to sunset. Six of these are available at the above-named link; another two are confirmed to be successful and will be available shortly; yet another due are due to complete (hopefully successfully) next month; and the final analemma failed again in 2003 and a fourth annual effort is already underway and should be ready (?) later this year.
