Well done Trevor, those are by far the best "first attempt" shots I have seen. Man I wish my first efforts were close to being that good.

You need to be aware that newts are not designed for planetary work, however if you keep it collimated you can still get decent results.

Dave: I just love that shot of M64 of yours, I gotta shoot that on the next available opportunity.

Regards and Clear Skies,

Dave.

Thanks Dave & Dave!

They weren't really first attempts, just the first ones with the webcam. I gave up trying to get planetary shots with the DSLR having just got blobs and developing a bald patch from all the hair pulling and confusion. Another great thing about this site; I would not have copped on that it was too difficult without seeing some of the posts here.

I just ordered an IR cutoff filter from Telescope-Service, so I hope to get better shots when it arrives. Will look at the Neximage if I don't get improvement.

That M64 shot is excellent. Can't wait to try that out! I didn't even have that object on my list.

Clear skies all,

Trev

Absolutely beautiful!

We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time. . . .
