Jupiter pic, very low in the sky these days + GRS JUNIOR! was created by dave_lillis
I had my first proper look at Jupiter for the season tonight just before it crossed the meridan, its very low compared to previous years, the seeing was not great but the GRS was very obvious for a change.
This is a quickly processed image, I'll try and get more out of it over the next few days, but I dont think the seeing will allow much more. There were fleeting moments which showed the belts very well, as if it was teasing at just how good it could have looked.
Here is a smaller version with some of the noise compressed out.
Both images were taken with an unmodified toucam pro + IR blocking filter + 12"SCT with a 3x barlow, processing (levels+unsharp mask) were done in photoshop. Both are true (uncropped) toucam fields of view.

Nice one!!!!
I've been trying to see Jupiter all this month with very little luck. All down to seeing. It's starting to get higher in the sky, improving the views somewhat , but that's a really nice shot - what's the equipment specs??

I added specs + 2nd image just after you replied. Its a bit depressing at how low it is, I'll have to make the most of it this year, the next 2 years will see it barely skimming my southern horison  due to houses.

Yep! we'll do what we can.
This is as high as it'll get for some years to come, so we gotta make the most of it now.
I haven't even tried for it yet on the webcam, been waiting for nice skies, but I think this is the time to try, next good seeing night I'll try to get it.
Your first image (without noise reduction) is much better.
Seeing really is the crux. I thought my scope was banjaxxed the first time I looked. Blue and red fringes around the poles. But catch it on a sweet night and it looks perfect (for the few seconds you get). I'll get set up some time early, and just wait for the right conditions. Here's hoping!
You've inspired me - thanks.

Eirik
its a processing artifact, if I pushed the levels in registax abit more you end up with concentric rings on the planet disk in the edge area, with abit of work in photoshop and a fair amount of time, alot of this can be "removed".
Funny thing is that I have 2 monitors here, on one its not visible at all while on the other its quite visible.
I've also found that on some occasions that edge details on jupiter are not as clear/sharp or bright as in the center for reason other then described above (look back at DaveGs image for a week ago).
