Flying Over Tycho was created by ayiomamitis
Dear Friends,

After countless close calls during the past few years, I am most delighted to present you with "Flying Over Tycho", my first successful attempt at capturing a passenger plane transit across the surface of the moon (or sun). The photo was taken less than an hour ago with a passenger plane caught just over the landmark crater of the southern lunar hemisphere Tycho whose rays are believed to extend well into the lunar northern hemisphere. Furthermore, the plane is just to the east of the proposed crash landing site for the SMART-1 mission in a few weeks and, more specifically, Lacus Excellante.

For those interested, please see www.perseus.gr/Astro-Lunar-Scenes-Flyby-20060707.htm .

Clear skies ... and never stop trying!!!

Anthony.

Anthony,

Spectacular, I watched this moon this evening from Firhouse in Dublin, hoping for the clouds to clear long enough to get enough AVIs to develop a decent image. Unfortunately it wasn't to be. But, your shot more than makes up for it. Another one for the magazines?? Keep up the good work, your shots are an inspiration to us all, such clarity and detail - WOW!!!

Clear Skies,

Cool Shot Anthony, apart from the plane, the detail in the moon itself is superb !

Nice shot!
