Another Jupiter animation, was created by dave_lillis
Hi,
I was out having a good look at Jupiter on the 2nd of June and captued some AVIs, no moons this time unfortunately, but still worth looking at. I had hoped to catch GRS junior but as the GRS came around, the planet was too near the horison.
static.flickr.com/67/200422513_3724dec251_o.gif
This is a small size so as to mask out the noise (5 frames pre second)
static.flickr.com/57/200422512_2671b9591b_o.gif
This is full res with at 5 frames per second, since I'm using flickr to host these, bandwidth is not a problem anymore.
static.flickr.com/69/200422510_b74fe5cb15_o.gif
This is full res with at 2 frames per second
The last few frames are terrible, the last one was taken when Jupiter was only 14 degrees above the horison, so it was swimming badly, but I kept them anyway as the GRS is visible.
Equipment = 12" lx200 + 2xbarlow + toucam pro + processing in registax + photoshop.
Each frame was made up from 1600 frames, between 1100-1400 were used from each to make an image.
There were some specs on the ccd that showed up on some of the frames, incase you notice them.
I payed alot more attention in the processing so as to try and have each frame as similar as possible in terms of brightness/contrast...
Lets hope it clears up abit over the next week so we can catch Jupiter before it swings behind the Sun. Its not difficult to get an animation like this, I'd encourage all those out there with scopes+toucams to give it a go. Any Qs, just ask.

Dave - they are excellent. Even with your final frames being a bit blurry they really are superb and GRS is very discernible. The 5fps full res animation is my favourite.
Imagine what you could if you had good conditions! I'd love to see an animation of the moons.
Thanks for sharing!
Cheers
Dave

I was thinking the same thing, what would they be like it Jupiter was 50+ degree high like a it was a few years ago, back then I didnt really know what I was doing  , we'll just have to make do with the low altitude for now.
As for moon animations, I agree, they are more spectacular, it's just a matter of timing and weather.
Frank, funny thing there is that the next meeting (wednesday AUG 2nd) next week, I'll be giving a demonstration of how to use a webcam with a scope, an etx70 in that case, and how to capture AVIs and run them through registax.

Lookin' forward to it! Since I got the new scope two weeks ago, I've had one half decent clear night. (Murphys 'new scope' law  )
But at least it's given me time to iron out any bugs and get to grips with using it and the the webcam & software.... Pity the planets are now moving out of favorable view....
