The Moon as only an astronaut can see it was created by JohnONeill
Hi all,
For something unusual have a look at a shot of the moon I took:
www.irishastrosoc.org/index.htm (click on the moon image)
and I didn't even leave the earth!.

Excellent image (Or should that be excellent software!).

Proves that Mare Crisium is not round.

By the way you do not need any fancy technology to see a similar view of the Moon.

If you have an old fashioned film slide projector,a slide transparency of the Moon, and a large white ball (!) just shine he Moon's image on to the ball in a (longish) darkened room so that the Moons's diameter just matches that of the ball.
You then have a 3-D Moon floating in your living room.

You then just walk around to the side of the ball to see the same image !!!

Nice effect John,
If you have a copy of virtual moon atlas (freeware) and press the "full globe" button, you can rotate the lunar globe to any position at any phase.
