Taken with a Sigma 50-500mm lens at 500mm, f/9, 1/160s on a Canon 350D handheld.
3 shoots merged in Photoshop using HDR merge.
For all you lens geeks ( and me being one  ) Carl Zeiss have create a the worlds large non-military telephoto lens, A 1700mm F/4 lens. It weighs in at 256Kg, see DPReview for more info on this beast

My word thats a big lens  All the better to see you with my dear!
Even your 50-500mm lens is impressive. A good photo of the moon aswell, espically when you took the photo handheld

Thats a very nice shot, even if a tad blurry when you look at the maria in the centre. And it is not overexposed (considering how bright it was last night!). Nice shot Dar!

A ~16" telephoto lens, thats one expensive monster.
Darragh, You might consider taking multuiple images and stacking them, that would seriously bring out the detail, a good image all the same.
