Three Planets This Morning was created by Keith g
Hi All, I had a go at shooting the rare triple conjunction of the planets Jupiter, Mercury and Mars this morning December 11th. These three were very low in the southeastern sky, Jupiter was only three degrees up over the horizon at magintude -1.6, Mercury only about 2 degrees at magnitude -0.5, and much more difficult Mars at magnitude 1.5, which I barely recorded, I've had to point it out !

This shot was a lot harder to take then I had bargained for since the sky was very bright, but still, this was the best I could manage. I could only see both Jupiter & Mercury in binoculars. It's a pity they were not in a slighly higher position and darker sky.

Details : Shooting Date/Time 11/12/2006 07:45am, 2 second exposure, Sigma APO lens at 133mm f8, ISO 100, Canon 300D.

Nice one Keith!

I tried again this morning also but there was
one single cloud blocking the horizon.
:x

The sky is clear tonight so hopefully I can
spot them tomorow.

Well done again!

Lovely catch there Keith! I didn't quite have the energy to get out of bed that early so I missed it.

Tere was a lovely dawn break yesterday alright, but from my location, some cloud was partially blocking that part of the sky and never lifted. It was nice to watch the Moon trying to run away from the morning twillight though!
