Superb image Anthony. I love the way you can see all those faint galaxies on the full version. Really adds to it.

Thank you for the kind words. I have to be careful with what I delete since the original images were immediately sent to the Windows Recycle Bin due to the unfavourable weather conditions.

Phil - once a plate solve is completed (in maximDL at least) you can just hover over any point and see its co-ordinates. In this case, the only potential problem I see is the diffracion spikes - they may prevent a good plate solve. That said, there's plenty of other stars to use in the solution.
Once solved, its just a case of grabbing the co-ordinates of the object(s) of interest. I guess they can then be thrown into Aladin and all the various catalogues scoured for matches.

You'd need a very detailed catalogue to identify them with any certainty. Dave McD - would plate solving software be of any use for this sort of thing or does it only solve / identify visible stars?
