hey guys i took this image a couple of years ago and forgot about it i think its got great composition. A longer exposure would have worked better but at the time i had no idea the effect would be so dramatic as i could not see very much through the view finder .I think thats something for the to-do list. The location is mellifont abbey just outside Drogheda ,nikon F50,fuji superia 400,approx 10 min exposure ,ps I lite up the turret with a hand heald flash

That's a lovely shot but what disturbs me a bit about it is the colour of the sky. In areas where you don't have light polution the sky goes blue when you expose a long time at night, your sky has gone that nasty orange colour ... and Melifont is not exactly in the middle of town ... makes you wonder about how bad light polution is getting here!
Anyhow, a lovely shot and thanks for sharing!

The film might be partly responsible. I think I remember some book (Covington perhaps?) recommending fuji superia as it was particularly sensitive to red.

thanks voyager, i think the orange is partly due to light pollution from Dundalk and from the lights on the motorway (M1) which is only about 2km away and i think albertw is probably right about the film i just looked up covington.
