ST-8 CCD Camera - First light was created by michaeloconnell
Well, after a few cloudy nights and problems with my computer, I finally get the chance to try out my new CCD camera. Below is first light: 10 x 30sec exposures with the Pentax 75.
Image cropped alot and very quick processing done to it. However, I think it indicates how sensitive the camera is to say it got such detail in such short exposures.
Camera is currently taking images of M51. Will post up when processed.

Michael,
Many many congrats. Wishing you every success and clear skies for the new camera. It's clear from your shot that the ST8 is one hell of a camera. I can see the bar going up real soon!!!

*Very* nice - there's something about a b&w image that can steal the show on a similar colour shot. So much less colour clutter for the eye to process - pure contrast. Just looking at the detail in the nebulosity surrounding the star at 8 o'clock to the horse-head is stunning... or it could be the half bottle of plonk I've just consumed! Let's see some more!

PS - congrats on your new baby!

Michael,
I have some VERY bad news for you ... get ready for some incredible addictions. CCD imaging with SBIG cameras is another world ... and your initial (great) images are a testament to what is about to come your way.
When you have a chance, construct a lightbox for flats so that your work (reduction) will be complete.
MANY congrats on the ST-8. It is a very good choice. The size of the sensor is similar to mine (1600x1200) but you have a slightly larger pixel size (9 microns) than mine (7.4 microns).
Anyway, the fun will now begin for you!!!!!
Any help you need with the SBIG software, just let me know.
