Looking at it again, I think you're right re bloated stars. Will try and watch for this in future.
Didn't know about that 65% rule of thumb.
Cheers,

Michael,
I was being a fussy B*****d, when I looked at a previous image of the same objects my stars were about the same size relative to the galaxies. Don't fuss over the detail at this stage....just enjoy the camera, too many objects out there but at the rate you are going you should have the Messier list covered by the end of the year.

Don't worry about being fussy! Feel free to give you 2cent worth!
FWIW, I think the image looks better now with the stars reduced. The detail in the galaxies also looks sharper.
Cheers,

Just saw the updated post after my last reply what did you do to the image? Stars are definitly smaller with very little loss of galaxy detail. Way to go man.

Mike,
I definatly think the second image is better.
The bloated stars of the first now seem to distract you from the galaxies.
The 2nd image also shows more detail escpically noticable on the left hand spiral arm of M81.
Cant wait to see what you get thru the 12 inch!
