Hi Anthony,
Regarding the mag 24. Jack Newton explained to me 3 years ago that this was accomplished by selecting a SiTe sensor and a specially built camera that went down to -80 deg C. It was an image of M31 over a period of some hours using a 16 inch telescope.

Thanks for the details and info. I am wondering if a brute-force method (20-30-40 hrs total exposure) will be enough to maximize the S/N ratio as much as possible so as to even get a slight hint or trace?
I am eagerly waiting for the moon to get out of the way so that I can start accumulating subs for this little project.
