Sunset and Moonrise was created by JohnMurphy
I purchased a new addition today as a birthday present to myself. I now have a 90-300mm EF Zoom lens for my Canon 350D. So first light for this new addition is this evenings sunset and Moonrise. The sunset is taken with one of the few eucalyptus trees in neighbouring gardens, hence the leaves, at this time of year. The moonrise taken a few minutes later captured a couple of crows flying home to roost, however with a 1/25th second exposure they look quite blurred.

If only you had used a quicker shuter speed for the second image John, it would have made for spectacular picture with the birds!
Happy Birthday by the way! Nice present!

John,
Congrats from me as well on this fine photo! If you were to shoot a few minutes earlier, there would have been a golden moon rising against that beautiful velvet blue sky. Ex. www.perseus.gr/Astro-Lunar-Scenes-Metamorphosis-20060512.htm .

Great images John.
I'm guessing you had the zoom up to max. for these :
Also, was it a case of the low sun making it safe to view through the viewfinder for the 1st image, even with zoom :
