Folks - I've still to get my vignetting fully sorted out and there's a bit of weird fringing going on (see right hand side) in the image below.
That said, I'm pleased with the level of detail the KAF1001E CCD can record in short exposures.

Fringing looks like the effect you get when mirror testing. I have had similar when light was entering the imaging train from outside. Still looks amazing though.

In each image I'm afraid. I'll have to try and track the cause down over the coming days. As Kieran says, it may be due to a light leak. I'll not worry about it for now though.

Despite the fringeing (or Fraunhoffer lines), this is a Whirlpool image to be proud of. The amount of detail seen in even this black and white image is amazing.
