Thanks for the thoughts guys. The images were for a member and I was surprised at the suggestion of compensation. However after a recent publication of an image in AI mag which only showed one quarter of the image I had taken I would like some info on copyright. Does a copyright image have to be produced in full with no alteration and how do you copyright an image? I know that Tony has his images set up with copyright and no downloading . How do you do this? I am asking cause as a present I have asked for a website.

Kieran,
having looked at many pro astrophotography sites on the web, it seems that the people in question add a large but subtle signature to their work in e.g. the bottom corner. Subtle, in that it would be of a faded grey against the background, making it obvious who the 'author' of the work is, but large enough that if someone tried to crop the image to get rid of the signature details, the image would not look uniform, off-centre etc.

Perhaps think of it that way.
