Philips webcam was created by smahon
I read an article about using a Philips vesta webcam for astro imaging.
Couple of questions:
- Is there any point in me attaching this to my Skylux 70mm refractor or do I need something bigger?
- Can this be attached directly to the focal point of the telescope or do i need some sort of adaptor to attach to the magnification lenses?

Has anybody on the forums had success with these webcams before?

I'm just looking for basic stacking (through registax) of a constellation or anything really.

Thanks
Stephen

Hi stephen, adapters can be bought for the webcam! The lens screws off and the scope becomes your lens. This can easily be slotted into a barlow!
I have no experience with the webcam but i know of others who use them to good effect! To be honest i would have thought they would be for planetary imaging like saturn, jupiter etc, the sun or even moon! As for the skylux, i have it myself and its a very nice scope! I dont know how good it is for use with a webcam!

Here is the adapter:

25 pOunds is EXPENSIVE! they can be bought as 'buy it now' on ebay for a tenner!

Hope this helps,
Matthew

Thanks Matthew,
I think I'll give it a go. Although I'll probably need to get myself a half-decent barlow first.
