Iridium Flare Mag -8 Tonight was created by Frank Ryan
An Iridium satellite passes in front of one of it's transmitters.

You cought way more stars then I thought you would given the heavy haze and bright moon, it was certainly bright but fast.
Did you mean to get it soo near the transmitter ?
A pity we missed the second one at 12.00 due to cloud.

Seriously, I like yoiur approach to astrophotography. Good to get in some foreground objects.

Yeah! Transmitters RULE!

No, I actually predicted the flare to be at its brightest in the center of this pic...


..which would have made for better composition but alas, I mucked up and
it flared just in the wrong place.


Dave,

It was really hard to work out the spot right anyway because you couldn't even
see the big dipper stars with the thick haze and moon!

I have to say, I know these flares are just curiosities but they make
for interesting photos.
I'd love to catch something mad like an ISS trail with a flare in the same
shot.

Neat image Frank! Wow, a -8 mag flare. It has been quite a while since I have seen one that bright.
