Luna and Regulus ... and Parallax

Dear Friends .... and SN ....,

During the time the board was down, there was a neat grazing occultation of Regulus by the moon and which occurred during the day (late afternoon).

The first link below is my capture of this grazing event at the minimum apparent distance between Luna and Regulus.

The second link below is a joint effort between myself and Pete Lawrence where we coordinated our efforts for a combined image and which we used to dramatically illustrate the different view of the same event and at the same time due to the great distance between us. We took things a step further and used this parallax opportunity to compute the distance of the moon from earth.
