Nice images Dave. Yeah saturn is all but lost unless your using a small focal length.
Your Jupiter image is showing quite a bit of detail. Why not try using your IR filter as an L channel and the ordinary webcam shot as your RGB. Like on Venus the IR filter should cut out a lot of the seeing effects.

We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time. . . .

Hi dave! great images! i love jupiter!!! just one thing to say, when i move my eyes at different angles to the screen it becomes obvious that saturn and jupiter were sort of 'pasted' on a black background! Its especially prominent with saturn! the image is slightly pixelated and the background is 'smooth'! jus thought id say it!!
Lovely images tho!

Thats the kind of feedback I like, something I can work with.
Matthew, when I have my monitor up full I can see a ring of darkness around Jupiter and I see the pixilation around Saturn when I have the monitor up full.
If I get time, I'll go back and re-do the background of these 2 planets. I did initial processing with the brightness of the monitor abit lower then I would normally have it at.
There is nothing I can do about the planets themselves, I'm limited by the camera.
In terms of processing I didn't past the globes and rings of the planets onto a different background, but what I did do was expand the background and made this extra area black.

Just wondering Dave, what are you using to focus? Are you doing it by hand?

Yea, the old fashioned way, and I know Saturn looks out of focus, the low res of it is because of the very dim image it presents at this size and its low altitude didn't help either, is this why you asked ? or do they all look out of focus?
