NGC 6888 - Crescent Nebula in Cygnus was created by ayiomamitis
Dear Friends ... and you-know-who,

I have spent the past couple of evenings pursuing the stunning emission nebula NGC 6888 in Cygnus with mixed results. Although successful at capturing the plethora of stars in the region (nearly 8000 stars in my image), I was partially successful in acquring the dim portions of the Crescent Nebula.

For last night's result based on just under five hours total exposure, please see www.perseus.gr/Astro-DSO-NGC-6888.htm .... all comments and suggestions welcome!

Super as always Anto!
Minor comment: the star spikes look a little strong compared to the nebula itself. If they were half or a third the size, it would give a better balance to the image, IMHO.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. To be totally honest, I am not very happy with the result since I failed to capture the very fine filaments which comprise the nebula itself.

Michael, the spikes are (extra) lengthy due to (good) seeing and really good polar alignment, tracking and focusing. In fact, you can use these spikes to immediately gauge how well the above-named factors were during the session. The only real way to cut down on their length is to reduce the exposure length and which will adversely impact the image itself.

I know Dave McDonald suggested dropping the spikes with nebula photos but I think this particular example is an exception since there are colourful and bright stars. Otherwise, I would have pursued his advice and suggestion.
