NGC 6946 - Fireworks Galaxy in Cepheus was created by ayiomamitis
Dear friends and Carl,

This little galaxy in Cepheus has the honour of having hosted eight supernovas and it is my understanding that it ranks #1 in this regard. For an image based on five hours total exposure (LRGB @ 120:60:60:60) from a few days ago, I kindly direct you to www.perseus.gr/Astro-DSO-NGC-6946.htm ... there is a slight gradient on the right edge of the image which I must address shortly.

Hope you like it ...

Beautiful image Anthony,as I expect from you.

There is a mistake in the description however!

Anyone spot the mistake?

Supernovas instead of supernovae? :P

Super image Anto. The nebulosity looks sureal, like it shouldn't look that real! Colours are superb. There is a bit of a depth to the image too, but more like the galaxy is between us and the background stars.

Nicely detailed image Anthony!

I think this Galaxy’s distance calculation is approximately ten million light years (~10^6) and not ten thousand (1.0^4) if I am not mistaken, is this the mistake you are talking about Peter?
