B159 - Dark Nebula in Cygnus was created by ayiomamitis
Dear friends ... and someone with a receeding hairline,
With really good conditions now prevailing with the arrival of fall and which should last for the next three months, I sat down last night to pursue the dark nebula B159 in Cygnus. I have checked around the internet and I could not find a single image of this nebula. As an added bonus, we also have a very bright and impressive carbon star (75-Cyg) within the same field of view (far left on my image).
For the result based on four hours total exposure (LRGB @ 60:60:60:60), I kindly direct you to www.perseus.gr/Astro-DSO-Nebulae-Dark-B159.htm .
I have a couple of Sharpless catalog entries in my mind for the next two evenings starting tonight.

Anthony,
Now was that dark nebula there before the forest fires in Greece began??
Seriously, that is a particularly impressive shot. Well captured and beautifully processed. Congrats on a fantastic image.

Thanks John and Dave.
The Barnard catalog is very much overlooked and I will certainly be active in its imaging since there are a handful of entries which have been imaged by amateurs. Perhaps the most famous such entries are B33 (Horsehead nebula) and B72 (Snake Nebula).
As for the forest fires, we had REALLY good transparency last night and certainly the best I have experienced the past 3-4 months. Don't know what went wrong.

A marvellous image there Anthony,
given the weather in your area, would it be a massive job to image to take on a project such as building a comprehensive imaging catalogue of Barnard objects like this. I'd imagine it would be well within your ability.
The carbon star really looks like its on fire.
