North America & Pelican Nebulae was created by Keith g
Well, I had my first try at these two nebulae in Cygnus as a test run for the Canon 400D tonight, it was very clear for a while, not bad even though it was getting foggy afterwards, so I had to give up after only 5 shots of three minutes exposure each. This is a crop of the shot using an 85mm lens at f3.5, ISO 800, a stack of 5 exposures and 4 dark frames before bad 'ol Mr.Fog got me...I'm hoping for a real good night so I can have a good crack at these two, at least the red response in the camera (unmodified) is not bad, little processing done in photoshop....hope you like it...

Keith,

I hope to pursue these two targets shortly as well and before it is too late this year with Cygnus.

Hopefully we can compare notes ....

That's excellent Keith - I reckon there's a lot of information in the red there just waiting to be pulled out in the processing. A bigger stack would make for a superb shot - just like I was trying to achieve on Friday before the clouds rolled over - I didn't get a single worthwhile frame :-(

A great shot Keith, there seems to be red in there ready to be processed.

On Friday night that part of the milkyway was very bright with naked eye, I wonder is it possible to make out this discernible shape with the naked eye ? , has anyone been able to?
You need to go find yourself a good hill Keith, we used a hill and all the fog was below us thankfully.

Hey Dave, congrats on 5000 posts! That really is dedication.

I've never been able to see the NAN naked eye although it is possible and there are people who have done so. One tip I was given was to try not to be distracted by the stars - doesn't work for me. I must get my wife to have a look one night as she seems to be able to see things that I can't :-)
