Summer (?) Milky Way was created by Frank Ryan
I wasn't going to bother working this image because I reckoned
it was too grainy and didn't have much to offer.
After a bit of searching on the net for some techniques to enhance otherwise
unusabe shots this was the end result.
Not bad but you just cant beat a dark sky all the same.
Taken on Saturday night the 8th of September with a Canon 350D.
ISO 1600, 20sec, FL 18mm, AV 3.5.

A grand image Frank, the milkyway is clearly visible right down to the horizon, what more can you ask for.
The milkyway are just below Aquila was quite stunningly bright, you cought that well in the pic.

Hi John,
Thanks.
It was taken with a Canon 350D camera on a tripod.
The reason why it shows so much detail is because this kind of camera
allows you to manually set it for astrophotography.
The lens is opened up to allow as much light in as possible and
the shutter is left open for around 20 seconds to allow enough time
for the faint Milky Way starlight to register on the camera sensor.
(oh, and a little bit of jiggery pokery with some photo software on the pc helps a lot too!)
Hope this answers your question.
Thanks.
